Pneumatic compressor, segmental with calibrated
gradient pressure
A segmented pneumatic compressor is a device that has multiple
outflow ports from the compressor, which lead to the segmented
chambers of the appliance. The distal cell fills
first to a prescribed pressure, then the medial cell fills
to a prescribed pressure which is less than the distal
cell. The proximal cell fills with less pressure
than the medial. Each cell fills with less pressure
than the preceding cell. Calibrated means that each
cell should be adjustable and accurate. This type of compression
is the most effective because it gives direction to the
compression and is an aid to the return of lymph and venous
blood.
